How to Defeat Worry

The focus of this message: every Christian can defeat worry! We should never allow our worrisome thoughts to control our hearts and minds, we should defeat worry by relying on God’s Word, and putting everything in His hands. Christians can defeat worry, by realizing how valuable they are to God, and His kingdom. ( See Matthew 6:26, 28-30.)

There are 4 ways you can defeat worry:

1) Take worry seriously. Do not get comfortable with your worrisome thoughts.   Don’t allow your thoughts to worry about anything.

2) Remember that worry is not from God. Our worrisome thoughts are not from God, but still we often worry.

 3)  Consider that worry is replacing. When we worry, we are allowing thoughts that should be devoted to praying to God, to be sidetracked.

4) Remember that something supernatural happens when we purposefully choose to give our worries to our Lord and Savior in prayer.  We don’t have to fully understand it or explain it, but it is 100% guaranteed. The Lord promises us that when we pray to Him, He will replace our anxiety with peace.

Jesus gives His disciples perfect instruction on worry in Matthew 6:25-34. We must remember that we are valuable to God. God wants so much more for us when we walk through fear, worry, and anxiety.“Do not be anxious about anything,” the Bible tells us in the book of Philippians, chapter 4, “but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

We must understand that all creation is valuable to God. God spoke it into existence. Hebrew 11:3 declares: By faith we understand that the universe was created by the Word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.  God upholds and provides for everything in His creation. God’s Word makes it clear that when we give our decisions up to Him, He make our paths straight.

Another verse that also speaks on worry: That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing?” – Matthew 6:25

As Christians, we should not worry about anything! However, we tend to find ourselves stressing about this, or that. No matter what, we should always remember

that when we surrendered our lives to Jesus Christ, He took complete control over it all. Worrying about something, means that we’re not trusting God that He’ll handle it.

If we get a bill in the mail that we can’t afford, we lose our job, bad news from the doctor, trouble in our marriage, struggling with our kids, anything that we’re going through, we should not worry about it. God will fix it! He’ll make it better in His time. We are supposed to give it all to God, we are to praise God, trust God, rely on His Word, and act all our cares to Him through Him. We need to remember that He loved us so so much, He sent His son to die for our sins. That right there shows how strong and fierce His love is for us. We also need to remember that He’s fully capable and fully in control.

When I was growing up I would tend to worry, if I was ever going be successful, be anything in life, have friends, and if I was going to struggle in school due to the way I was born. Throughout elementary school, middle school and high school, I did struggle. I always didn’t get the best grades, I didn’t have that many friends, I didn’t fit in because no one didn’t want to hang out with “the girl with the paralyzed face” but I did not let the bullying or the taunting stop me from being something in life. I wanted to be successful even though I was born into this world differently from other people.

I want to make my family proud, and be an inspiration to other kids who are going through a similar situation. I use my story now to inspire others and touch lives. God was with me 24/7 everyday at school. When I got to know more about God, I learned that He wants us to put all our worries in His hands. God knows what He’s doing with our struggles, it might take some time for Him to speak to you on how to fix it, but it will be on His time, the right time. Now, I try not to worry about anything. If I do, I’ll talk to God about it, put it in His hands. I remember I would just get so anxious, and take everything so seriously. When God speaks to me, He’ll continue to tell me to look up to Him, do not be scared or discouraged. After everything I’ve been through in my life. I should not be scared, just give it all to Him. I also know not to let the devil take control of my heart, my mind, and my soul. That’s God’s job.

God has protected, provided, and met my needs all throughout my life. I’m entirely grateful for everything that He has done for me. He’s made a way out of no way, He’s never left my side, He brought me through so much. I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for Him and His grace. Being born addicted is not an excuse for me being successful in life. I believe with prayer and hard work, you can overcome anything in life! Any obstacles that may come in your way.

God has given me so much peace and confidence. Now if I ever get anxious, stressed, I’ll look at Romans 8:28, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” This verse is absolutely everything! It has given me so much peace and harmony. It calms me down when I become anxious or stressed. Psalm 46:5 is also such a warm and calming verse to me. “God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.”

There’s NOTHING too hard for our God, He’s so powerful and mighty. There is no one else like Him. Just because we may not see His hands at work in our lives, does not mean He’s not working! He is the way, the truth, and the life. He is our protector and provider. He is our King, the Alpha and Omega. We are so valuable to God, He does not care about our past, we are His children no matter. His blood is so amazing, we do not deserve His tender mercy. Where would we be without his amazing grace? We stand amazed at His strength.

As sons and daughters of the Most High King, we need to stand on the promise found in Romans 8:28. So whatever it is that you’re stressing about, stop; whatever you’re worrying about, don’t. Let’s choose to lift up our eyes to the Lord and cast all cares down at the foot of His cross. Let’s also choose to let go and let God! God’s love for us is so unconditional, eternal, and it will remain. So to us God’s Word says:”Be seeking first the Kingdom of God, and all things will also be given to you.”

This choice defeats worry. Worry cannot capture us. Christians can defeat worry by living one day at a time. (See Matthew 6:34) this verse tells us to not worry about tomorrow, give it to God. He will handle it when it comes. Consider this also, Jesus is not teaching us to put this into our our minds. What Jesus forbids is worry. Do not be troubled about tomorrow; you are not even there yet. Leave all to God. Live one day at a time. The worry that wears out your mind, can wear out your body also. Lastly, don’t let worry, stress, or fear take over your life, and thoughts.
