John 1:12-13 NLT

12 But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. 13 They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.

This is why he loves this verse:

I love it because it not only beautifully summarizes the basis of salvation, but it brings together two platitudes you always hear about in Christianity: being born again, and being a child of God.  Being born again is more than just “doing a 180,” and being a child of God isn’t something we just say to show that God “likes us.”

These verses show that those who believe in His name are consequently born not of flesh and blood, but of God, thus attaining an element of life that takes us beyond a mere biological creation.  We become something higher and greater than what we before.  This very deep, fundamental change to our essence is the process by which God births us as His children.
